A Song

A song that does no wrong. Maybe there are some false promises, but like Santa Claus, the children will not be disappointed for long. There is no mention of "Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war." No words like "his terrible swift sword",
We played this song at our wedding reception, during the dance time. I remember the tables emptied and everyone joined in. Some lady tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Thank you so much"

One More Time

I wanted to go back and try one more Fitness competition. BCABBA planned a competition in March called "Fraser Valley Championships", so I entered and started practising a routine. Two weeks before the show, President Ross phoned me to say they had to cancel the show because there were too few entries. He was very gracious and obviously sorry for this.
They put my entry to the "Vancouver Championships" on June 30' This was OK and I continue to train.
I notice my age is starting to check in with some problems. Worst thing is something happen to my right shoulder when I was working on the "bridge"' Bruce thinks it partially dislocated. This continued to happen, unpredictably, right up to competition time. Once it happened when I am asleep. I am nervous to try a handstand. I cancel the "bridge". I notice my split leap is not as high and legs are not "up" like before. Most other motions are OK.
I have this feeling that Fitness is a class which has been in decline. I think people feel the effort and training is too great a task. Controlling the food is tough too. I also have a problem with the spray tan which adds to discomfort. I wonder if I will be the only Fitness competitor registered in this show. When I go to athlete's meeting this is confirmed.
So I will be first place again. I am not disappointed for this. Bruce says I have won by default. To enter this class you just have to be female over 18 years. He says, ""You beat about 250,000 people who did not enter".
I just worry that my shoulder will come out and I will not finish my routine.

Anyway, I get through it successfully and the judge/ Master of Ceremonies say nice words and give me my trophy.
I thanks God and Jesus many times. I take a taxi back to hotel in my little posing suit, Bruce and Taxi driver are happy for this. I wear it into the Hotel Lounge and lounge boss is not happy, I think. We celebrate with Baileys, straight up.

So,the "Popeye Classic" has come and gone.
On spray-tanned bodies, the stage lights have shone.
Months of preparation time have passed,
The competition time, it came at last.
Push, pull and lift the weights, repeat, repeat.
Back and biceps, chest and triceps, careful not to cheat.
Glutes and quads, hamstring and calf, don't forget the abdomen.
How important was the food, cod and yam, spinach and chicken, on and on.
Practice the pose, practice the walk, go to the trainer, listen to talk.
Go to the meeting, and patiently wait,
Get a number, check your height and weight.
First tan at nine, then make up and hair at three in the morning.
Another tan at six, then to the venue by nine, more waiting, waiting.
Go to the pump room, see the rest of your class
Most, a little bit nervous and keep to themselves.
Finally, called to the stage and stand on my spot,
Do those poses that I've practiced a lot.
My result I won't know 'till I come back at night,
But the Popeye show , its managed just right.
